John Foust, 10th District Democratic Candidate for Congress, vows to work to ensure that our laws reflect a society that rejects discrimination in any form. Raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, John started working on a Christmas Tree Farm when he was 12-years old, meeting the owner before sunrise and working to cut, drag and load trees for 8-hours a day.

John, the first member of his family to attend college, put himself through school by working each summer as a laborer in the steel mills and on the railroad. After college, John went on to earn his MBA and law degree while working full time during the day and attending classes at night.

After moving to Northern Virginia, John became a community leader and was active in several civic associations and County advisory committees. John became active as an advocate for Northern Virginians after a cell phone company began cutting down trees to build a tower at the entrance to his neighborhood. John led a six-year battle that proved the cell company was illegally constructing towers without public hearings and zoning approvals. John’s efforts ultimately resulted in a major victory for citizen input to land use decisions involving commercial development on public property.

Currently John serves on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors representing the 120,000 residents of the Dranesville District as Chairman of the Board’s Audit Committee, Vice-chairman of the Budget Committee and Chairman of the County’s Economic Advisory Commission. Since joining the Board, he has worked to pass six balanced budgets that cut spending while preserving investments in essential services like public safety, transportation, and education.

As the next congressman for Virginia’s 10th District, John will fight to uphold the values of those living in Virginia’s 10th District. He is pleased with the progress our country and the commonwealth are making on marriage equality and supports ending discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. When hearing the news of the recent decision made by the Supreme Court, John Foust issued the following statement: “Today’s news is a significant step forward towards ending discrimination in Virginia and across the country. The Supreme Court has once again shown that it is willing to stand up for the constitutional rights of all Americans to be protected from unjust and unequal treatment. I commend Attorney General Herring for his leadership in protecting the rights of same-sex couples in Virginia. The fight to end discrimination in Virginia is not over, and we must continue the hard work to ensure that all Virginians have a fair chance.”
