LGBT+ Democrats of Virginia Proudly Endorse Abigail Spanberger for Governor

LGBT+ Democrats of Virginia is proud to announce our endorsement of Abigail Spanberger for Governor of Virginia.

Throughout her distinguished career, Abigail Spanberger has been a fierce advocate for equality, fairness, and the rights of all Virginians, including and especially LGBTQIA+ individuals. As a three-term Congresswoman representing Virginia’s 7th District, Spanberger has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to protecting and advancing LGBTQIA+ rights.

Spanberger is a fearless supporter of marriage equality in Virginia, publicly championing an amendment passed by the Virginia General Assembly to remove marriage discrimination from the Constitution of Virginia and enshrine marriage equality. In Congress, she earned a perfect 100% rating from the ACLU and was a steadfast supporter of the Equality Act, seeking to guarantee federal nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQIA+ Americans. Spanberger has also spoken out forcefully against efforts to target transgender youth, demonstrating her dedication to protecting vulnerable members of our community.

Her leadership was pivotal during key moments, including vocally defending affirming policies for transgender students in the face of political attacks and advocating for inclusive policies that honor every Virginian’s dignity. As the Human Rights Campaign PAC noted in its recent endorsement, Spanberger’s track record reflects the courage, pragmatism, and empathy needed to move Virginia forward.
