Join us for the LGBT+ Democrats of Virginia Holiday Brunch

This has been an unusual year, but we did a great job this year pivoting and working around COVID.  Let’s celebrate our achievements!

The Board would like to invite you to our FREE virtual Holiday Brunch that will be held on December 19th from 11 am to 1 pm.  We’ve invited Senators Warner and Kaine, as well as State Senator Ebbin, and Delegates Sickles, Levine, Adams and Roem.  We also are having songs performed by Virginia artists Narissa Bond and Roddy Barnes.

We will join at 11 am for a general membership meeting and discussion time.  Our program with performances and elected officials will begin at 11:30 am.   The representatives will be asked to stick around for a Q & A at 12:30.

Decorate your background (and self) for the holidays.  Bring your favorite cocktail.  And join us for this celebratory event.  The link to register is at https://tinyurl.com/LGBTHolidayBrunch.

P.S. – Our Board members are excited about the event and have shared a few recipes for some cocktails you may want to have on hand when you join us.  The recipes are shown below.

Peppermint Martini  by James Lewis, Vice Chair for Communications

Fill shaker with ice and add:
1.5oz vanilla vodka (prefer Stoli)
0.5oz peppermint schnapps (prefer Ice 101)
Shake well and pour into martini glass with Hersey’s chocolate syrup filling the bottom of the glass. Garnish with mini candy cane or rim glass with crushed peppermint candy.

Pro tip: In a post-COVID world, fill or create design on glasses with chocolate and freeze to preserve the designs and drink temperature at party.

Porn Star Martini  by Bob Martin, Vice Chair of Candidate Endorsement
Let’s forget about the second half of this drink’s name for a moment: It doesn’t remotely resemble a classic martini. As for the first part, it’s said by some that its creator, bartender Douglas Ankrah, thought it was what a porn star would order; other stories hold that he was inspired by the smell of a stripper’s perfume. In any case, this crowd-pleasing combination of vanilla and passion fruit accompanied by a shot of sparkling wine has spread far from its origins at London’s Townhouse bar in the early 2000s to be adopted by bars the world over.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces vanilla-flavored vodka
1/2-ounce passion fruit liqueur (such as Passoã or De Kuyper) (a really good alternative is DeKuyper Peachtree)
1-ounce passion fruit puree (a good alternative, Goya Passion Fruit Cocktail)
1/2-ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
1/2 ounce vanilla simple syrup (1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to one cup of simple syrup)
2 ounces sparkling wine, chilled
Garnish: 1/2 passion fruit
Steps: Add all ingredients, except sparkling wine, into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a passion fruit half. Serve with a sparkling wine on the side.

Peppermint Moonshine Frappé  by Maggie Sacra, Chairperson

1-ounce Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
1-ounce Kahlúa Coffee Liqueur (optional)
Vanilla ice cream to taste (Breyer’s is recommended)
