Catherine Read
I am a 22-year resident of Fairfax City, having lived in Old Lee Hills, Providence
Square, and in Fairchester Woods (twice). My three children graduated from Fairfax High School and I started my social media consultancy, Creative Read Inc., here in the City in 2007. I am a graduate of George Mason University with a B.A. in Government & Politics (’84) and moved into the first dormitories ever built on the Fairfax Campus in October 1981. During those on-campus years, I made many walks down University Drive to the First Virginia Bank branch to deposit my work-study paychecks.
For 9 years, I served on the Board of Directors of Britepaths (formerly Our Daily Bread – Fairfax), and I currently serve on the Board Chair of GrandInvolve, a non-profit that places active older adult volunteers into the classrooms of FCPS Title I elementary schools. Currently, I am on the Advisory Council of the Virginia Poverty Law Center and the Equality Virginia PAC Board. I am also a current member and former President of the Rotary Club of Centreville-Chantilly. Previously, I served on the boards of Virginia’s List, Equality Virginia, and NARAL Pro-Choice VA PAC Board (now REPRO Rising Virginia).
For the last decade, I have served as a host for several Fairfax Public Access shows: Inside Scoop (Mondays at 8 pm), Your Need to Know (Wednesdays at 7 pm), and Making Change Radio. During this time, I have interviewed many non-profit and civic leaders, activists, advocates, and elected officials over the years. I also often moderate panels and forums locally for organizations like The League of Women Voters.
