Gerry Connolly was elected to Congress in Virginia’s 11th District in 2008. He started his life in public service in 1995 as when he was elected to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, where he served fourteen years including five as chairman. He and his wife Cathy have lived in Fairfax County since 1979, so he has a long history in, and has seen many changes in the area.

Gerry is passionate about healthcare, the environment, and serving as a check on the Executive Branch. As co-chairman of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Caucus, he has supported the Paris Climate Agreement, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Power Plan, as well as other policies to help protect our environment and help stop and reverse climate change. He is working to help preserve Obama-era environmental policies, and to protect places such as the Arctic Wildlife Refuge from oil drilling.

He has advocated for increases in Medicaid coverage that would allow more people to get treatment for opioid addiction. He also believes strongly in a woman’s right to choose, and has worked against Republican members of Congress’ efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.

Connolly was a proud supporter of the Affordable Care Act in 2010. In addition to working to defend the ACA from Congress’ efforts to undo it, he is also working to defend the Federal Employee Health Benefits program and fix the Veteran Affairs system.

As part of the House Oversight Committee, Gerry Connolly hopes to continue to call out Trump on his numerous conflicts of interest and the corruption in his administration. From his foreign business entanglements, his refusal to release his taxes, and his spending of taxpayers’ dollars to spend weekends at his own properties, Gerry Connolly will continue to shed light on Trump’s corrupt practices, and the LGBT Democrats of Virginia fully endorses him to continue these efforts!
