Sara Ratcliffe
Sara Ratcliffe brings three decades’ experience as a progressive policy professional working with government agencies and non-profit organizations, and on political campaigns at multiple levels. Raised by a single mom, Sara’s journey took her from a life of financial hardship, living in public housing and supported by public assistance programs, to leadership of a national advocacy organization working with Congress and state legislators across the country, as Interim President of Catholics for Choice. Throughout her 30-year career in progressive policy and politics she focused on shaping strong and sound policy that is fair, equitable, and leaves no one behind. Her work helped secure access to better health care and protect the civil rights of every person, no matter their circumstance. In 2016, Sara and her family moved to Greene County, VA; from there Sara ran a strong campaign for the 58th District seat in 2021, earning more votes than any democrat in that district in two decades. Now Sara hopes to bring a new kind of representative to the new 62: A leader willing to listen, who cares and strives to provide real solutions for our community, and who will focus on the needs and concerns of the community, rather than one seeking merely to make headlines or elevating their own political profile. Sara aims to bring her personal and professional experience and a lifelong commitment to public service to represent the community which has become her home, the new 62nd District which includes Greene, Madison, and parts of Culpeper and Orange counties.
