Endorsed Candidates 6: Abigail Spanberger is the Only Candidate in the 7th That Will Represent All

Abigail Spanberger is determined to flip Virginia’s 7th District, challenging Congressman Dave Brat (R-VA). She hopes to bring a new spirit of bipartisan leadership to Washington, and she has the endorsement of the LGBT Democrats of Virginia. Abigail has stood up for us in the past and will stand up for us in the future. Her campaign staff is an example of her commitment to diversity, which she has already put into practice and will continue in her Congressional staff.

Recognizing that healthcare is the issue at the forefront of the minds of the Virginians in her district, she is a proud supporter of federal funding for Planned Parenthood and is a supporter of universal healthcare, specifically the Medicare-X Choice Act that is before the Senate. She wants to create a healthcare system that provides stability for members of the 7th district and all Americans. She is a supporter of organized labor as a way to provide stability to workers whose salaries aren’t currently keeping up with the rising cost of living, and is a supporter of net neutrality to help give equal business and work opportunities to all Virginians.

Abigail Spanberger has had a long career of public service that started with a role as a federal law enforcement officer with the US Postal Inspection Service working on money laundering and narcotics cases. She then worked as a CIA agent, living abroad as an Operations Officer. As a former member of the CIA who carried a weapon, she is in favor of common sense gun laws and criminal justice reform such as HR 2598, the Gun Violence Restraining Order Act of 2017. These types of policies would make it easier to keep guns from people who could be a danger to themselves or others.

Spanberger supports the Equal Rights Amendment and will work to protect marriage equality and LGBTQ rights. She lives in Glen Allen with her husband Adam and their children.
